Kim Jun Ok

Kim Jun-ok (Korean: 김준옥), born June 25, 1935, is a North Korean animation director and People's Artist. He has been a key figure at SEK Studio (formerly the Korean Art Film Studio and later the Korean 4.26 Children's Film Studio) since graduating from Pyongyang University of Fine Arts in 1958. Born in Pyoksong County, South Hwanghae Province, Kim Jun-ok began his career as an artist at the studio and has since been active as an animation artist and director in North Korea. In 1968, he directed his first film, the children's production "Eoksoe." His animated series "The Squirrel and the Hedgehog," released in the early 1970s, became a massive hit in North Korea. He is particularly known for directing the first four episodes of this series. Over his career, Kim Jun-ok has created over 300 children's films, including fairy tales such as "The Tale of Two Generals," "The Winged Dragon Horse," "The Sports Day," and "The Little Doctor," as well as about 10 animated series, including "The Clever Raccoon."
