DirectorWriter
Alessandro Bavari, an Italian-French artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, has been attracted to photography, painting and music since he was a child, experimenting over time with different painting techniques and exploring photography as an expressive medium like other disciplines, mixing them together. Considered one of the pioneers of digital art as well as one of the great representatives of contemporary surrealism, over the years he has developed his own digital artistic language, approaching it in 1993 as a further research discipline. In 2011 he won the Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica with "Metachaos", first prize for best animation. It is thanks to this futuristic video that Alessandro in 2017 was contacted by 20th Century Fox as concept artist for the movie "Alien: Covenant”, via direct call from Sir Ridley Scott. He continues to work as an art director in cinema, with directors such as Gabriele Lavia and Luca Guadagnino, as well as a concept artist and art director in the field of videogames. In addition to the Golden Nica, he collects various prizes including the "Digital Hall of Fame Award" at the 3D Festival Awards in Copehagen, the "Photo-realistic images" award at the Adobe “The Power of Design - European Competition” in London, the "2001 International Digital Art Award" in Australia, and again at the Clio Awards, the One Show Awards, the Art Director Club Awards and many others. His works have been published in hundreds of magazines and art books, as well as being a continuous subject of study in universities and institutes around the world. He has exhibited in various galleries and museums such as at the “Salon Art Paris” at the Louvre Museum, at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, at the Jyväskylä Art Museum in Finland, at the "State of Digital Art" exhibition at the Devos Art Museum in USA, at the "Digital Hall of Fame" in Stockholm, at the Palace of the Arts in Naples, at the Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo, at the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center in USA, at FIMA - Festival International Montreal en Arts in Canada, at Kronos Art BCN 2020 in Barcelona, at the DigitalArt Factory in Rome and many others. He also works actively as freelance in the field of ADV, collaborating with agencies such as BBDO, M&C Saatchi, 1861 United, Pentamark, Leagas Delaney, Saatchi & Saatchi, McCann Erickson, Ogilvy & Mather, Armando Testa, Alpha Omega, Doing, The Name, Humans and others, producing campaigns for companies such as Mercedes, Yamaha, Bmw, Husqvarna, Renault, Wolksvagen, Ferrari, Pirelli, Trelleborg, Samsung, Chrysler, Sky TV, Telecom, Enel, Leroy Merlin and many others. A multifaceted artist, he lives in Italy working as a visual artist, painter, photographer, art director and musician. He is currently working with her co-author Sara Aliscioni on the upcoming book entitled "Kill the Covid!", A rural horror photographic mockumentary set in Italy, faithful to his artistic style and his dreamlike and provocative visions.

The Man With the Flower in His Mouth

The Man With the Flower in His Mouth

A train station in Sicily. There are two people in the waiting room: one is “the man with the flower in his mouth” in the film's title, who has confronted and threatened a mysterious woman outside the station. The other is “the peaceful customer,” who missed his train because of presents for the women in his family which hindered him as he ran and made him trip on the train tracks. The man with the flower in his mouth has helped the peaceful customer and immediately establishes a relationship of trust and empathy with him. The two recount their lives, but whereas the peaceful man talks about his frustrations, the man with the flower in his mouth keeps steering the conversation toward just one topic: death. Everything seems wrapped in mystery, starting with the identity of the woman outside the station...

Metachaos

Metachaos

Metachaos, from Greek Meta (beyond) and Chaos (the abyss where the eternally-formless state of the universe hides), indicates a primordial shape of ameba, which lacks in precise morphology, and it is characterized by mutation and mitosis. In fact the bodies represented in METACHAOS, even though they are characterized by an apparently anthropomorphous appearance, in reality they are without identity and conscience. They exist confined in a spaceless and timeless state, an hostile and decadent hyperuranium where a fortress, in perpetual movement, dominates the landscape in defense of a supercelestial, harmonic but fragile parallel dimension. In its destructive instinct of violating the dimensional limbo, the mutant horde penetrates the intimacy of the fortress, laying siege like a virus. Similar to the balance of a philological continuum in human species, bringing the status of things back to the primordial broth.
