The Strong Sex

Director Jonas Rothlaender confronts nine men, including one gay and one bisexual interviewee, with anonymous statements of other men in his documentary experimental set-up. The topics: sexual (borderline) experiences, traditional role models and the current understanding of male sexuality. The result is that the interviewees themselves subsequently begin to speak openly and frankly about their own experiences. And to reflect on their sexuality. To which social ideals does the male sex see itself committed, and do "typical male traditions" still exist at all today?

Dedicated to the power of the written word, Bernward and Gudrun found a publishing house whose first publication is, paradoxically to many, a controversial past work of Bernward's ostracized father, an infamous Nazi author. Bernward defends his father's writing ability, even if he is haunted by his father's suspicious past.

Filmmaker Andres Veiel chose four students at random as they were accepted at the Busch Academy, and in the documentary Die Spielwuetigen, he allows us to eavesdrop on them as they spend four years learning their craft and growing from callow youngsters to adults in search of their big break.

The life stories of both Wolfgang Grams and Alfred Herrhausen are tragically linked to this era. Grams is the one who takes up arms for moral rigor; Herrhausen however seizes power and dies when powerful.
