Let the River Flow

During summer 1979, Ester moves to Alta in Northern Norway to begin teaching at an elementary school. Like many Sámi at the time, she is ashamed of her heritage and conceals her ethnicity. Ester goes to great lengths to fit in, even joining in with the derogatory jokes. When her cousin Mikkhal takes her to a camp by the Alta River, where people are demonstrating against the building of a dam, Ester learns how the fight for the river is also a revolt against the years of brutal racism and discrimination against her people. After a major confrontation with the police, Mikkhal and some other Sámi decide to go to Oslo to hunger strike in front of the Parliament. Knowing what is at stake, Ester realises it is time to make a stand…

The Tree Feller

She summons her mother's ghost and develops a strange fascination with death as well as a passion for living.

Mendel

A Jewish family leaves Germany after surviving the Holocaust and heads to Norway. Mendel, their youngest son, is too young to make sense of the Holocaust but tries to comprehend his family's actions during the war and their nightmares now. His imagination frequently runs away from him.

Captured: Meet Robert A. Robinson Photographer

Bob Robinson (1927-1996) and American photographer living and working in many parts of the world. Norway was one place. His book "Captured by the Norwegians" was published in 1958. Founding member of Manité - a photographic collective. Made the film about Sylvie Becker from East Berlin.

Sigrid Undset - et kvinneliv

A poetic documentary film about Sigrid Undset’s life and authorship. The film shows us Undset’s life from childhood to her last years. It tells us about, among other things, her parents and her siblings, her life abroad and her relationship with her husband, the painter A. C. Svarstad. The documentary gives us an interesting picture of Sigrid Undset’s literary career from her debut in 1907, of her historical novels and her active participation in debates against Nazism and Knut Hamsuns attitude. Through interviews, letters, old film footage and excerpts from Sigrid Undset’s literary works, we get an insight into one of Norway’s most significant authors.
