The Midway

Children wait their turn for a once-in-a-lifetime roller coaster ride. A loving and poignant meditation on childhood and the passage of time. Mud

Children guide the audience through a vision of shifting digital polygons in this CGI take of the beloved NFB classic Helicopter Canada. An expression of the experience of wonder and discovery, carved from pixels and produced as part of the 10th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse apprenticeship.

Sweet Talk

Oil-covered fish meet skateboards and the War on Terror in this razor-sharp satire of media, government, and the tycoons who take advantage of the system. Inspired by found sound of kids talking about oil and gas, hand-drawn with love and produced as part of the 10th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse apprenticeship, in collaboration with the Mexican Film Institute.

The Roommate

Fed up with her roommate’s incessant shopping and hoarding, a girl takes matters into her own hands in this comical take on vlogging and the art of co-habitation. Inspired by found sound of a shopper’s vlog, nourished with Saturday morning cartoons, and produced as part of the 10th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse apprenticeship.

End of Message

Voicemails get lost and found in space in this thoughtful commentary on the fractured act of communication and the spaces between people trying to express themselves. Inspired by found sound of missed voicemails, animated in inky black and electric colour, and produced as part of the 10th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse apprenticeship, in collaboration with the Mexican Film Institute.

Constellation

Combining the music of Chopin with digital animation, this short film artfully defines pianist Janina Fialkowska’s imprint in the world of classical music and beyond. A swirling choreography of light particles reveals an otherworldly beauty, channelling the pianist’s explosive performance. Produced by the National Film Board of Canada in co-operation with the National Arts Centre and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Foundation on the occasion of the 2012 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.

Delves deep into the anxiety, thrill and uncertainty of six aspiring animation artists as they are plunged into the twelve-week trial-by-fire that is the NFB's Hothouse for animation filmmakers.
