Master Ke and His Disciples

Traditional opera is well known in Fujian, and the women clown (played by men) of Gaojia Opera are the most famous. This film records the last days of Master Ke Xianxi, one of four most famous 'clowns' in China, and his caring for the existence and development of Gaojia Opera in modern times. It depicts the major challenges facing Chinese traditional opera today.

Little House

On the periphery of every city there live the poor migrant peasants looking for a better life in City. Although the shabby living condition, burst of laugh of two years old Wadan and her parents could be cached from time to time. The film depicts the kind and sincere character of the Chinese peasant and tries to give a positive outlook of their life.

Tulou, My Home

The film tells a life story of Wang Shulan, who was sold to Tulou by his mother at an early age. As a woman herself, director Dai Yi is deeply moved by the fates of the women she sees living at the lowest rungs of society, and cares deeply about telling their story.

Explosion

The film was shot over four years. A woman — from Hui'an, Fujian province — finds out that her husband has become infected with a venereal disease. She takes out her revenge on the local hotel and the barber shop (which are known as sites of secret prostitution in the city) by setting four explosives. Da Yi's film tries to understand why a kind, virtuous wife and mother turns to this extreme act.
