Tricksters

Shot during the first ever Innu circus festival in Labrador, Canada, Tricksters gives the viewing audience a positive glimpse into these troubled native communities. The artistry of international performers is combined with the native tradition of drumming and dancing offering a wider appreciation for the Innu way of life. Tricksters features Beni Malone's Wonderbolt Circus, as well as two time world champion hoop dancer Lisa Odjig who interacts with Innu Elders and children in workshops. Interviews with Innu elders inspire a greater appreciation for the Innu way of life. Tricksters offers an emergence of art and native culture, rarely seen on the screen.

Becoming 13

Explores the intimidating terrain of girlhood by following three 12-year-olds over the period of one year. As these girls move from childhood to maturity, it's clear that peer pressure is an important influence, but as the films shows, the greatest influence in a young girl's life is family.

The Sparky Book

In Newfoundland filmmaker Mary Lewis' live action/animation hybrid short film, a talking goldfish tells us the poignant story of his best friend, Sparky the dog, and Sparky's owner, a young girl suffering from a serious illness. The dog lords an unusual reign on a harbour city, but his bond to the girl is tested when her illness takes a dark turn.

The Invisible Machine

On a calm Sunday morning in 1978 residents of Bell Island, Newfoundland hear an odd, high-pitched hum, immediately followed by a sudden and terrifying blast resounding for hundreds of miles. Outbuildings are destroyed, livestock electrocuted, televisions explode and power lines vaporize. The Invisible Machine unravels the mystery of the Bell Island "boom" and in doing so takes a chilling look at the U.S. military's experimentation with electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons.

Honey Reddigan is a celebrity at the Sweet Bea baking factory. She has just published her first romance novel, Carmen the Bee Keeper's Lover. Carmen, Honey's fictional heroine, is everything Honey ain't. In walks Edmund Goobie—a charming, commitment-phobic local TV personality.
