Hans Keller

Joseph Roth's Grosse-Welt-Bioskop-Theater

The Austrian writer-journalist Joseph Roth (1894-1939) travelled criss-cross through Europe. Hans Keller visited the same countries and places in order to make a film about the life and work of this man, who could only live in hotels. Keller creates a beautiful synthesis between Europe as Roth knew it and the present-day Europe. In the loving look at the different locations, the continuity of past and present reveals itself. Intermittently, tableaux in a copied 'Bioskoptheater' show scenes from the author's life. Finally, a film script which was once rejected by Hollywood yet comes alive.

Sylvia and Ingrid are mother and daughter, but not each others. Ingrid feels guilty about her mother's death; she can't remember the fatal words she spoke before her mother's heart attack. Sylvia likes to take on the mother role and in weekly sessions the two women play scenes from Ingrid's life, moments from her relationship with her mother.

Martha

Martha overhears Bernard and John talking about blackmail. Jacob has come up with a plan that includes a mysterious key. Brothers Bobby and Arnold, eternal rivals, both fancy Martha, but also have a soft spot for Leonie. The latter gets tasked to learn more about Jacob's plan. A dead man is discovered lying in Bernard's office late at night by somebody else searching the premises. When the main conspirators all gather at the Zevenhuis villa, John declines to cooperate...
