Sirius

Based on the Hungarian writer Ferenc Herczeg's novel written in 1894, this film takes the viewers to the past of Hungary. Professor Sergius (Elemér Baló) insists that he invented a machine that can fly faster than the speed of earth's rotation and this enables him (or anyone who travels with him) to fly back with it to the past; that is to travel in time. To prove this the professor promises the hand of his daughter Rózsi (Katalin Karády) and all his possessions to the one who is willing to try the 'space travel' with him in his machine. The romantic and adventurous Hungarian count Ákos Tibor (László Szilassy) finally accepts the challenge. For the count's luck before the time travel he attends a costume ball dressed as a Hungarian hussar. Because when they arrive in the past, people think that he is a far relative of the wealthy landlord whose field they landed. This is how the strange adventures begins for our 20th century hero in the world of the 18th century Austro-Hungary.

A Man's Past

Imprisoned at the French garrison on the Isle of St. Noir for putting to death a patient suffering from an incurable illness, Dr. Paul La Roche escapes to the mainland, where he meets Dr. Henry Fontaine, his boyhood friend, and Fontaine's beautiful sister, Yvonne. As Fontaine is going blind, La Roche performs several operations for him, attracting the attention of Dr. Renaud, in Algiers, who offers him a position. La Roche, practicing as Fontaine, reveals his love for Yvonne during an excursion to a Bedouin camp. Then, Lieutenant Destin, from the prison, arrives and threatens La Roche with exposure unless he surrenders the hand of Yvonne.

The Workman’s Overall

The romantic adventures of a wealthy factory owner with a beautiful Gypsy girl, who, overcome with jealousy, kidnaps the man’s child while he investigates (incognito) the disloyal and corrupt foreman in his own factory. His disguise is his old work overall in which he started his career many years before. The dramatic and spectacular work is the earliest surviving feature in Hungarian film history, starring legendary figures from the Hungarian stage: Gyula Hegedűs, who has a street named after him in Budapest, and Elza Szamosi, one of the first Puccini female singers of American and European opera stages.
