His lack of “revolutionary spirit” condemned him to the scorn of his peers and made him a pariah for a decade, until he managed to go into exile. Without resentment, but without forgetting, the film reconstructs his story and revives a forgotten brilliance.

Santa & Andres

Santa, a peasant woman loyal to the Revolution, is sent to guard Andrés, a gay writer who is under house arrest, considered “ untrustworthy” for his ideas and sexuality by the Cuban authorities. Set in a small village in eastern Cuba during the early 1980s, this poignant political drama depicts an encounter between two deeply thoughtful souls on opposite sides of a profound cultural divide. Both have experienced deep loss, and both know the damaging effects of isolation and oppression. Even so, the cavernous ideological divide separating them — the same one that has separated Cuban friends and kin for over 50 years — has until now seemed insurmountable.

Casa Blanca

Nelsa and her son Vladimir, poor residents of a port town in Cuba, are facing important decisions just now. So far, the thirty-year-old with Down syndrome has been a source of great distress for his mother. Now, confronted with her illness and disability, he has to take over control at home or these two people who are the closest to each other will have to part. The film captures the slow change of relations between the characters.

In the early twentieth century, the Hotel Nueva Isla was an emblematic luxury hotel. After the Cuban Revolution, it was confiscated by the State and became a shelter for homeless people. Located in Old Havana, today it is an imposing ruin. Jorge de los Rios, a retired clerk, is one of the few residents who remain there, along with La Flaca, his lover, and Waldo, a young itinerant. As the rest leave for safer places, Jorge clings to his dilapidated home and its buried treasures, slowly digging his way through its debris. The film speaks poignantly to a lost generation who fought in the Cuban Revolution and dreamed of a better society.

They Are We

The story of an Afro-Cuban group who kept alive songs and dances their ancestor had brought aboard the slave ship from Africa. They were so specific that around 200 years later, a village of Africans watched them, joined in singing, and said simply, joyously: "They Are We". This film tells the story of how they found each other and how they work to be able to reunite.

Agón

A water polo feminine team trains intensely for a final competition. Eva, the team captain, wishes to win, but has noticed strange behavior from her teammates ever since trainer Omar's arrival on the team. Eva tries to discover the truth, but has no idea that she is facing a supernatural force, hungry for blood and violence.

Queso de cabra

In no particular time and space, a family fabricates goat cheese. The mother and the daughter pretend to sell the cheese in a lonely road, but they are really selling their bodies. They leave the hard worked cheese to decay in a pile of dirt and rot. The mother encounters existential desperation when the daughter departs with a costumer and the father prefers the company of the goats.
