The movie depicts the political crisis that led to the suicide of president Getúlio Vargas, in the 19 days that preceded August 24, 1954. The crisis began with the attempted assassination of journalist and politician Carlos Lacerda in August 5, 1954, at rua Toneleros, Rio de Janeiro, in which Major Vaz was assassinated instead. Investigations pointed to Gregório Fortunato, chief of Vargas' personal guard, as the orderer of the frustrated assassination. This incident was one of the most importants in the history of Brazil.

The dramatic documentary recounts eight stories of love affairs in which those involved experienced some kind of physical or psychological violence. The real cases are interpreted by professional actors. The question raised by the film is whether love can be freed from violence, prompting the viewer to reflect.

Através de uma investigação do relacionamento do adolescente com a escola - ambiente fundamental em sua formação - o diretor traz à tona, além de questões comuns a qualquer adolescente dentro do ambiente escolar, questões como a desigualdade social e o impacto da banalização da violência no desenvolvimento de muitos desses jovens.
