A dance of painted wooden Russian dolls (hollow inside and of graded sizes so that the largest holds all the rest). They twirl, swing and sway to gay Russian tunes, never losing their fixed reserve. As the dance ends they hop up in turn into the mother figure, who then hurries off the scene.

In the film, a lone canoeist lives through the changes of geological history, through Ice Age and flood, only to find himself in the end trapped in a sea of scum.

A Search for Learning

A film for teachers, describing the use of the "discovery method" in teaching. All it needs is a teacher whose encouragement is natural and unobtrusive. The film shows a free environment where even the furniture can be arranged to meet the needs of a particular enquiry. Film loops and other visual media are shown being used to advantage in this method of teaching.

This short satirical film, created entirely from archival footage, is about the British Empire—on which the sun never sets. Change in the Maritimes

This film examines the changing economy of Canada's Atlantic provinces and the factors that contributed to the expansion of industry in the early to mid-1960s. The film focusses primarily on the choice confronting many inshore fishermen--whether to stay with the free but frugal life that their nets provide, or to move to the city.

Bird of Passage

A young Japanese-Canadian businessman, now established in Montréal, recalls the time during World War II when the Japanese-Canadian community of Canada's west coast was uprooted and moved inland. There are some flashbacks to the events he describes, but the film is mainly about his home and family life in Montréal and his successful career as a chemical engineer.

You Don't Back Down

In Nigeria, a young Canadian doctor serves in a local mission hospital and learns much from the experience. Stationed abroad under the Canadian University Service Overseas Plan, Dr. Alex McMahon and his schoolteacher wife find every day a fresh challenge. An interesting study of intercultural help.
