Lena grew up with parents from the Southern part of Jutland and Montenegro on the island Als. In Lena’s movies her Balkan roots are often expressed through the characters that appears, and through her films she examines how she can combine the Eastern European temper and the Southern Jutlandic serenity. It's important to be system- and norm critical in Lena's exploration of the meaningless everyday life and whatever burns. Lena finds it interesting to create reliable characters who are edgy and absurd, and for whom it can be hard to be placed in the kind of system we live in. Lena plays in the choirharmonizing punk band slim0, where she expresses the rebelliousness, which also appears in her films.

When Mountains Cry

Heavily pregnant and in the early summer heat, Mina has wandered up into the Montenegrin mountains in search of answers to the problems she is facing with her partner, Daniel. She longs for him, but she is full of doubt. A woman in the mountains tells her to find a dying tree and cure it by tying yarn around it - doing so will give her clarity, the woman says. On the way to the dying trees, Mina reflects on her relationship with Daniel. The task is challenging and puts Mina to the test, but the journey gives her a break from home with Daniel and all the noise of past events with him. She finds the silence and peace of mind she's been missing, and finally she is once again able to see her own life and Daniel in a clear light.

The story of the young twins Miki and Vanja, who live with their foster father Kim. Kim works as a police officer and he proudly brags to the twins about his authoritative ways to take care of protesters - but the twins do not think highly of Kim. When Kim is not around, the twins escape to their parallel fantasy world, in this world they overpower Kim, but as he suspects what they are doing, the boundaries between fantasy and reality becomes blurred.
