Leyla Bouzid was born and raised in Tunis, where she was an active member of the local cinema club. She studied French literature at the Sorbonne and film directing at La Fémis. À peine j'ouvre les yeux (As I Open My Eyes, 2015) is her first feature, selected at Venice Days, the Toronto IFF, Dubai IFF, Rotterdam IFF among others.
