Director’s Factory: North Portugal

Project by the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival in which young local and international filmmakers couples meet and create together and enlighten local cinematography with short films. The program, which has already passed through Taiwan, Chile, Lebanon and southeast Europe, now reaches north Portugal.

Espinho

Téo, a lunar teenager, meets the new parish priest of his rural village, who has just arrived from Mozambique. As the two grow closer, they develop a spiritual bond steeped in attraction.

Between Her

Aya is a trans girl who is frustrated by her love life and experiences with men. An accidental encounter with a man from her distant past causes her to reconnect with her identity.

Night Visit

Ruthie spends an unusual night with a guy from her village. After discovering the troubling circumstances that led to their unexpected romantic encounter, she must seek the truth and find her own way to confront him.

Heroine

What is a woman's courage? What is the difference between courage as defined by men and by women? Is a woman who shows courage rewarded, or does she pay a heavy price? Maybe the refusal to be brave is in itself courageous? "Heroine" puts a spotlight on stories told by female filmmakers focused on, and through the eyes of, female protagonists. The film brings to the screen fiction stories which seek to break through the discourse and dialectic of courage and cowardice to discover an additional range of concepts that are not as definitive.

Night of Love

Yonatan abandons the army in an attempt to reunite with his ex-boyfriend. After it turns into a failure, he finds himself alone in Tel Aviv, without a place to sleep. Broken and confused, he goes on a wild night's journey looking for consolation.
