Our Mutual Girl

Our Mutual Girl was unique. Not quite a serial, not quite a newsreel and not strictly an advertisement, it combined elements of all three. In 52 weekly one-reel episodes, running from January 19, 1914 to January 11, 1915, the Mutual Girl outwitted villains, saw the sights of New York, met with theatrical and political celebrities (who frequently helped her out of trouble) and tried on fashionable outfits in chic stores. The fashions were an early example of product placement, although apparently not paid placement.

The Finger Print

Two boys, Dan Woods, son of a poor widow, and Bert Ainslie, the scion of a rich one, are introduced in college. The scene opens at the tennis court on the college campus, then comes the girl, Nellie Wilson, beloved of both, but favoring the poor youth, Dan.

The Water Rat

Two young collegians, Anthony Markham, an enigmatic person, and Alan Strange, whose temperament is the direct antithesis of his friend, compete for the honors of swimming. Both men are aspirants for the hand of Rosalie Latimer, the daughter of the banker, Latimer, to whom Alan is the confidential secretary.

Pauline Cushman, the Federal Spy

Pauline Cushman leaves the theater to become a Federal spy. Working with Henry Holmes of the Secret Service, she escapes execution twice and helps Gen. Rosencrans in battle against Confederate generals Bragg, Forrest, and Morgan.

The Ex-Convict

Wilbur Stone is falsely accused of a crime, convicted on circumstantial evidence and "railroaded" to the penitentiary. As an odd coincidence. Frank Fink, a hardened degenerate, is sent up at the same time and he becomes a prison parasite on Stone. Both men are released about the same time.

The Ferrets

A crime film in which a detective goes after a gang of counterfeiters.

A Husband Won by Election

Edna Dusenberry, the charming twenty-year old daughter of Senator Dusenberry, is in love with handsome young Walter Force. John Cartwright, a corrupt politician and candidate for mayor, makes a deal with the Senator whereby he is to receive the hand of Edna in marriage.

The Lesson

Rosie Lee, the shabby, wan-faced daughter of "Daddy" Lee, a humble laboring man, becomes engaged to Jerry Brooks. Shortly afterwards, "Daddy" meets with a serious accident, and Rosie is forced to seek work as a ribbon clerk in a large department store in an effort to keep the wolf from the door and provide food and medicine for her aged father

The False Order

The sensational crux of jealous revenge in "The False Order" is a head-on collision of two enormous locomotives. A realistic effect that heavily discounts any stage device ever materialized to thrill.

Bread Upon the Waters

Tim Clancy, an ex-convict, on the day of his release, returns home and is welcomed by his mother and sweetheart. He decides to turn over a new leaf. He applies and secures work at the Ganes shoe factory. Here he is recognized by a detective and when his record is made known to the management he is discharged. The inevitable follows.

Betty Fools Dear Old Dad

Betty and David are lovers, but Betty's Dad prefers Aaron for a son-in-law. Betty spurns him and tries to elope with David.

The Girl at the Cupola

SILAS WILSON realizes that his business is being run to the ground, and that he cannot longer compete with the newer foundries unless he makes radical changes in his methods and employees. His workmen have grown old and antiquated in his employ. Through the influence of his daughter, the general managership is passed over to her fiance,—one Jack Berry —a young man, well trained in the school of modern methods.
