Dying Alive

Montreal, a multigenerational house loaded with books, paintings and knick-knacks, so many memories revived on the evening of one last Christmas Eve. Luc, a retired pediatrician and teacher in his eighties, lives with his son François, a pediatrician like his father, and François' wife Esther. Suffering and physically diminished, the old man has now decided to end his life. In a corrosive and sensitive verbal joust, he asks his son to end his days in privacy. The son then takes him on an existential and circus-like journey through the streets of Montreal where the father is supposed to go to his final destination, a hospital where he will be confronted with his ultimate wish: the choice between the finality of medical aid to die or a return to square one, the small pleasures of what remains of his life, alive.

After travelling many roads, the two artists decided to split for a while in Istanbul, planning to meet again in Byblos. Pippa left then, alone, and nobody heard from her again.

One Night in Tantura

Stranded in tents and detention centers in Greece and Turkey, or in temporary housing throughout Europe are thousands of Palestinian refugees from Syria whose predicament started 70 years earlier with the expulsion of their parents and grandparents from Palestine. The director, Hala Gabriel, herself a Palestinian refugee from Syria, embarks on a journey of exploration to meet relatives and former residents of her family's hometown Tantura, Palestine to discover why she, like them, is a refugee. She learns about the battle to take the village, the internment camps where her father (aged 15 at the time) and others found themselves for months, and the journey of being without a homeland which has transcended multiple generations to this day. At a time when refugees throughout Europe and United States are being vilified and denied entry, this film shows that all they want is to return home or find a place they can call home.
