A Promise Kept: Inside Operation Cormack

A 2003 TVNZ documentary on the capture of the criminal responsible for one of New Zealand's most heinous crimes. On June 19, 1987, 6-year-old Teresa Maida Cormack pulled on an oversized red raincoat and left her home to walk the short distance to Richmond School. 8 days later her body was found in a shallow shingel grave on Whiraniki beach. Teresa Cormack had been sexually assualted and suffocated. 3 pubic hairs were found on Teresa as well as semen, but in 1987 DNA tests were just being introduced and the DNA taken from her wasn't enough to be tested as a means to identify her killer. In 1993 Detective Sergeant Brian Schaab was put in charge of the case that for over 6 years still remained a mystery - yet he did not give up. With DNA becoming a popular way of indentification, the pubic hairs were tested and a DNA profile of the killer was founded. The long list of suspects narrowed down as suspects were eliminated and one name remained - Jules Mikus.

Colin McCahon: I Am

This documentary looks at the life and work of New Zealand's most celebrated painter, Colin McCahon. The first excerpt looks at McCahon's beginnings in Timaru and Dunedin, and his explorations of modernist techniques in paintings that reconceived 'the promised land' in an endemic landscape. The second excerpt covers McCahon's time in Muriwai in the 60s and 70s, and the influence of the environment and Māori spirituality on his work. Sam Neill reads from McCahon's letters and writings. Directed by Paul Swadel, it won Best Documentary at the 2005 Qantas Awards.

I Live With Me Dad

Peter Hehir plays full-time loser Sid McCall, professional vagrant and alcoholic on the skids. Haydon Samuels is his young son Christopher who lives with him. At the insistence of those who seek to help, child welfare workers are called-in to retrieve the lad from what authorities classify as "inappropriate living conditions." Someone seems to have overlooked the fact that Christopher does not consider his plight as distressing however and with each visit to the home, all the social workers can get in the way of co-operation, is Christopher's stock-standard reply to their questions..."I live with me dad!"
