Desert Island Discs

Arena celebrates Roy Plomley's Desert Island Discs with the help of many celebrity castaways, including Frankie Howerd, Russell Harty, Trevor Brooking, the Lord Mayor of London, Professor JK Galbraith and Arthur Askey. The special guest for the 40th anniversary programme was Paul McCartney who was also a fan of the show: 'I love its homeliness. It conjures up the best in traditional British pleasure, like the great British breakfast. It's an honour to be asked'.

A Dinner Date with Death

Considered to be the earliest surviving example of a British play-to-screen drama, this served as a pilot for an anthology series called ‘The Man Who Walks by Night’ where a Silver Shroud type figure tells a different tale of mystery and suspense each week. It was approved of generally, but a freeze on funding brought it to a premature end. In this entry, a wealthy man who’s made many enemies, including his soon to be ex-wife, his ex-partner in crime and the son of a business partner he drove to suicide. He invites them to dinner to tempt fate, the sheer thrill enthralling him. But will he survive?

Double Confession

The hero discovers his estranged wife dead and tries to frame her lover for the murder. He becomes involved with the criminals who make various unsuccessful attempts on his life while the police clear up the mystery.

To the Public Danger

Four people with very different backgrounds meet by chance at an English pub and gradually become carried away in a bout of thrill-seeking. When their spree gets out of hand, each person faces a moral choice with lasting consequences.
