The Fifth War

A war documentary that stands as an example of both the possibilities of international solidarity and also its dangers. Co-directed by an Iraqi and German filmmaker and starring a British actress, its proximity to the violence of the Litani Operation resulted in the loss of two of its members during filming.

The Palestinian

A powerful Palestinian documentary starring Vanessa Redgrave about the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) and its role in Lebanon, as well as the daily struggles and resistance of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. Filmed right after the Tel al-Zaatar massacre, the film highlights the Palestinian fight for identity, dignity, and homeland.

Kufr Shuba

The central theme in this picture is the alliance between Palestinians and progressive Lebanese in the south of Lebanon. There in January 1975 the Israeli forces attacked the Lebanese village of Kfar Chouba. Israel said it was a retaliation. It was its way of expressing its discontent with the political successes gained by the PLO, culminating in the speech of Yasser Arafat before the General Assembly of the United Nations in November 1974. The film shows some fragments of this speech.

The Urgent Call of Palestine

Ismail Shammout, an artist who is primarily known for his paintings, also served as director of the Cultural Arts Section of the PLO and worked with the organization’s Film Unit in the 1970s. In this short film, Shammout records a solidarity song by the Palestinian Egyptian singer Zeinab Shaath to announce the most urgent call of Palestine. The song and the words of Kamal Nasser that break through the ballad continue to hold striking relevance today. Lyrics by Lalitha Punjabi.
