Mum's the Word

Martin is a nurse in a private clinic in Paris. The victim of a serious concussion, an unidentified casualty, arrives in the emergency room one night. He is operated on immediately. When he wakes up, half-unconscious, he tells Martin a confused story about stealing jewels from a maharajah visiting Marseille... before falling into total amnesia. Real and fake policemen interrogate Martin, gangsters kidnap him to get him to reveal precious information, but... the nurse keeps his mouth shut!

My Darned Father

Roger, editor of a women's magazine, meets Roberte, his friend Jean's former mistress, at a major couturier's during a collection presentation. Roberte, who now lives in Florence with her niece Maria, asks Roger to arrange a student exchange so that Maria can come to Paris to perfect her French. Roger approaches Jean's son Philippe, a student at the Beaux-Arts, who agrees to go to Florence. Maria and Philippe meet on the platform at Pisé station. Lilac

Also known as Lilac, this early Anatole Litvak-directed talkie was based on a play by Tristan Bernard and Charles Henry Hirsch. The story bears traces of the Bertold Brecht-Weill piece The Threepenny Opera, with heroine Lilac (Marcelle Romeo) consorting with the criminal scum of Paris. Lilac falls in love with a handsome detective (Andre Luguet), but he doesn't let his emotions stand in the way of his duty, and in the end he reluctantly turns her over to the authorities. At $120,000, Coeur de Lilas was one of the most expensive movies to come out of France in 1931, but it more than made back its cost at the box-office.
