A young girl and her new friend investigate a series of supernatural happenings in the Austrian children's film SUMMER WITH THE GHOSTS. Caroline departs from her home in Montreal to join her father a famous film director on the set of his latest film in Austria. When she arrives however she learns of a series of accidents and problems on the film set with everyone at odds to explain how they happened. Suspecting that someone means to sabotage the film she begins to investigate the ancient castle being used as the set. Along with her newfound friend Jakob she discovers that the film's difficulties may in fact have a supernatural cause.

The Revolving Doors

A quiet painter, separated from his wife for a year, receives a suitcase in the mail from his mother, whom he hasn't seen since infancy. He believes she abandoned him to his wealthy, paternal grandparents. The suitcase contains mementos and a diary, a long letter to him, written over the years, with details of her youth, her first job as a pianist at a cinema, the coming of talkies, her marriage, and how he came to live with his grandparents. As he reads through the materials and her story comes to life, his son Antoine, who's about 10 or 12, tries to break through his father's silence and sorrow by taking matters into his own hands.

Captive Hearts

December 1944. As their bomber is shot down during a mission over Japan, Sergeant McManus and Robert, a young lieutenant, have no other choice but make a parachute jump. They are captured by local villagers and are saved from execution by Fukushima, the village elder. Mario

Set during summer in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine of Quebec, Mario and Simon are two brothers living in a fishing village with their mother, who runs a grocery story, and their father, who runs a fishing business. Mario is ten years old, mute and autistic. He is withdrawn from reality and living in a surreal world that only his older brother Simon and his stuffed coyote share. Mario is very close with and deeply admires his 18 year old brother, whom he depends upon for love and attention. Simon reads Arabian Knights stories to Mario, dresses him in sheik's clothing and they play out imaginary wars in an Arabian style fortress that they built. Everything changes when Helene, a beautiful young tourist comes between the two brothers. Simon falls in love and begins to neglect his brother to spend time with her. Mario feels rejected and discovers what hate and jealously are. He sets about a chain of events that lead to tragedy.

Where Are You? is an innovative and militant work, buoyed by hard-hitting film language that includes subtitles and intertitles, quotations, offscreen voices and songs and references to advertising.

The House of Light

This plodding piece of cinematic ambiguity finds a married couple engaged in boring conversation in a window as scenery changes behind them. When they manage to talk about love, some of the tedium is lifted in the wake of their amorous verbiage. This black and white effort from Jean Pierre Lefebvre depends on symbolic impressionism rather than plot.

Sabre and Foil

The ancient and deadly sport of fencing, demonstrated by world masters in competition. The film is not a record of individual duels but it does capture the cool, merciless attack in a way to focus the eye on every swift maneuver. The cold clash of steel on steel, the staccato pound of feet, the strange, sculptured postures of the masked, white figures - all make absorbing, convincing viewing.

Age of Illusions
