Sonata

A woman finds out that her 7-year-old son has stolen from her. She tries to explain that it was wrong but has difficulties conversing at a level the boy can understand. She improvises her message in a bedtime story. Based on a novel by Anton Chekhov.

Badjelánnda

Juvva Pittja's poem gives us a unique landscape. It highlights land, nature's values and their importance to the Sámi minority in the Arctic region of Sweden. Climate change and commercial interests increase negative effects on the area and on the Sámi people.

Inland

A young woman from Stockholm moves to her boyfriend's hometown in northern Sweden, but the relationship quickly ends. She finds a job and stays, for reasons she doesn't even understand herself. How do you become part of something new?

Shut Up Haters

Maja (22) lives in Stockholm, Sweden, but a death within the family forces her back to her hometown of Pajala. In Pajala, her sister Sofia lives with the troubadour Johan. After the funeral, Sofia will accompany Johan on a summer tour around Tornedalen, and Maja decides to come along. It will be a journey where questions about their origin and the future of the Tornedal will be put on their head.

Laugh or Die

Parikka, the actor once called the Funniest Man in Finland, and his troupe are about to be executed for the atrocities committed during the Civil War in Finland. Jaeger Lieutenant Nyborg, an admirer of Parikka, suspects a definite miscarriage of justice. He wants to save the actors. The forthcoming visit of the German General von der Goltz to the prison island provides him with a suitable opportunity. Nyborg suggests that the actors prepare a comical performance for the visitor and not be shot. Instead, they will be given a new trial. Preparing a comedy in the horrible circumstances, in the midst of hunger and death, seems quite an overwhelming task. Only a handful of real actors are still alive, the rest of the troupe consists of stagehands. Parikka has to use all his inventive skills to be able to produce something funny.
