So, here we are in time, here in the singularity, where two bodies inhabit an in-between space marked by the dilation of time. Inspired by radical Black thought, FUGA is an experiment on the erratic movement of escape and its impossibility.

Akin's Desert

Akin is a dedicated Cuban doctor working in Brazil for the Mais Medicos/More Doctors programme in 2018. From his daily routine in an indigenous community to his intimate moments with Érica and Sérgio, his relationship with Brazil gets deeper and stronger. With the election of Jair Bolsonaro, the cooperation between the two countries ends abruptly. He must make a decision: return to Cuba and abandon the relationships he has been cultivating or stay and reinvent himself without being able to practice medicine.

Dialogues After the End

Pedro, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

The story of Brazil’s first emperor, returning to Europe on board the English ship Warspite. The trip makes Pedro conquer his fears and face his life from a personal point of view. Jah Intervention

Considering the research of the Brazilian Forum of Public Security (2017), Black people in Brazil are still more than half of the population of the country. Between 2005 and 2015 the number of black people murdered increased by 18% and this also made us the majority of homicide victims, accounting for 71% of all registered bodies. 'Jah Intervention' is a symbolic walk to exhaustion. The intervention proposes the preliminary warm-up that precedes a fight of titans in a boxing ring. The intervention consists of the movement of the performer sensing the sudden fall when affected by perforations by bullets of semi-automatic weapons.

A Ilha dos Cães

Two Angola, the colonial and the contemporary, spaced 60 years, share the curse of a mysterious island. In the past, the epicenter of the tragedy is an evil fortress, tomb of revolutionaries deported from the mainland. In the present, the building of a luxurious resort awakens the relentless jaw of justice. Soon after, workmen lacerated dead bodies, begin to appear. The horror spreads rapidly. Pedro Mbala is sent to the island to solve the problem. His target is a pack of stray dogs.

Joaquim

Letters from War

In 1971, António Lobo Antunes' life is brutally interrupted when he is drafted into the Portuguese Army to serve as a doctor in one of the worst zones of the Colonial War – the East of Angola. Away from everything dear he writes letters to his wife while he is immersed in an increasingly violent setting. While he moves between several military posts he falls in love for Africa and matures politically. At his side, an entire generation struggles and despairs for the return home. In the uncertainty of war events, only the letters can make him survive.
