Iron Wills

Fredrik Mack (Gustav Ranft) owns a glue factory in northern Norway and Ove Rolandsen (Eugen Skjønberg), a great womanizer, works for him. When Mack's beautiful daughter Elise (Lilla Bye) returns from studies, Ove immediately flirts with her.

Love's Crucible

At the end of the middle ages, Ursula is accused of having poisoned her own husband. She claims she is innocent, but to prove it, she must submit to a ritual: trial by fire, walking on fire along a path leading directly to a crucifix. A film that has been much commended for the visual creativity shown by the director in successive blending in of images involving Ursula, her husband, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ. Much applauded, also: the performance of Jenny Hasselqvist, thus described by French director René Clair: “We shall never forget her flaming eyes, the severity of her spirit, her abrupt and alarmed expressions, like an animal under threat.”

Karin, Daughter of Ingmar

Karin Daughter of Ingmar is a 1920 Swedish silent drama film directed by Victor Sjöström. It is the second part in Sjöström's large-scale adaption of Selma Lagerlöf's novel Jerusalem, following Sons of Ingmar from the year before, and depicting chapter three and four from the novel. The critical reception was however unenthusiastic and Sjöström decided to not direct any more parts.

The Downy Girl

The Girl from the Marsh Croft

A 1917 Swedish drama film directed by Victor Sjöström, based on a 1913 novel by Selma Lagerlöf. It was the first in a series of successful Lagerlöf adaptions by Sjöström, made possible by a deal between Lagerlöf and A-B Svenska Biografteatern (later AB Svensk Filmindustri) to adapt at least one Lagerlöf novel each year. Lagerlöf had for many years denied any proposal to let her novels be adapted for film, but after seeing Sjöström's Terje Vigen she finally decided to give her allowance.

Despite her youth, Princess Lara Rispala has managed to get her kingdom Leskapur to move towards a new heyday. But one day, a catastrophe occurs in her life. She loses the "Sun Mirror", the symbol of the dignity and security of the old royal family. Lara confides in the young European and engineer Rudolf Corvin, who has long been her confidant. Together they go to the fakir Rahu. The fakir has the ability to read out all the secrets of the universe in his well. He sees that the Sun Mirror has been stolen by the prince in the neighboring kingdom of Valpur.

Hämnaren (The Avenger) was made in 1915, and was rediscovered in Berlin in 2001. It begins with a woman named Ester, who is reading a letter and crying. The letter says that a man named George won't marry her, because he knows his father would never allow him to marry a Jewish woman. Ester dies of childbirth, and possibly a broken heart. Her suitor Jakob takes care of her son, who is named Josef, and sends George a note, accusing him of causing her death

Madame de Thèbes

The story is wacky – a gypsy is cursed by her father, so that she has to deny her illegitimate son in order for him to have a successful life. She gives him to a well-to-do lady who has lost her own child. Later, he has grown up to be a politician who wants to become the foreign minister. He doesn’t know that his real mother is the famous Madame de Thebes, the fortuneteller who all politicians make sure to visit! This information falls into the hands of a rival, who tries to use it to ruin his career. Meanwhile, the rival’s attractive daughter is attacked by a ruffian and needs to be rescued… There are a lot of striking images in this film. You can see the beauty of them even if the state of the print is far from perfect. The Norwegian actress Ragna Wettergreen gives a haunting performance as Madame de Thebes, with wisdom and regret – and quite a few melodramatic gestures. Understatement was not the norm in those days.

During a duck hunt the local land owner Brandt has told his ranger and his son to sit in a boat and collect ducks as they are shot down. When Brandt's dog gets in the water he commands the ranger's son to jump in the water to save the dog but the boy drowns.

The suicidal gambler Tom Haget receives an invitation to the D.L.D.C. However, Huntley is hit by a car, unconscious and without ID documents he ends up in a hospital, is reported missing, and it is widely suspected that he ran away with the money. Confused and desperate Huntley meets Haget and gets an invitation to the Living Dead Club.
