Le Clémenceau is a tobacconist's and PMU frequented by a popular clientele in Saint Raphaël. There are customers who are just passing through, and regulars who come to fill their loneliness. Many of them have been hurt by life, and see the bar as an anchor for their family. Some live on the streets, others have been in psychiatric hospitals, and most suffer from addiction. Conversations between customers and confidences follow one another as the days go by.

Maître Contout - Mémoire de la Guyane

Born in 1925 into a modest Guyanese family, Auxence Contout studied in Paris on a scholarship at a time when few ultramarines were so fortunate (a decade after Léon Gontran Damas and Aimé Césaire). He has dedicated his life to exploring the Guyanese Creole culture, a counter-culture born of the deprivation of the basic rights of slaves from Africa, which has been enriched by Amerindian, European, Indian and Chinese influences... A man of transmission, he has tirelessly shared his knowledge of tales, proverbs, language, dances, carnival... In order to find its origins, he had to undertake a fascinating journey into the cultures of the whole world.

Place de la République, 30 ans plus tard

After watching Louis Malle’s Place de la République, a young film-maker decides thirty years later to return on his footsteps at the same time of the year to shoot another documentary using an identical set-up.
