BA in Fine Arts at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of South Africa. CEO, director and writer at Almost Red Studio Chengdu (China). Xu Xiaoxi is a Chinese filmmaker born in Chengdu (China) with an international background. He obtains his BA in Fine Arts from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, specializing in the field of Video Art. He moves to Los Angeles in 2008 to study a MFA in Filmmaking at the NYFA, Universal Studios in Hollywood, where he graduates in 2009 with the feature film "Desire Street", co-directed with his collaborator Roberto F. Canuto. He receives a Special Mention for Best Feature Film in its premier at Mix Mexico Film Festival in 2011. His short film "Mei Mei" was presented in various film festivals and his latest fiction film, "Ni Jing: Thou Shalt Not Steal”, receives a Best Film award in USA and Best actress and runner up best film in Spain, in Asturian Film Festival 2014. Xu Xiaoxi is the co-founder and CEO at Almost Red Productions Chengdu (China), where he directs fiction and commercial films since 2010.

Water Circles Under Cotton Clouds

In a dystopian future, with a social context influenced by various pandemics and with a political upheaval triggering reactionary governments, various young people hide on the outskirts of a city after looting a batch of vaccines. While the leaders of the group seek to sell them on the black market, the subjugated try to get their distribution among the marginal population who, like them, are deprived of vaccination. Tensions and discrimination based on sexuality or ethnicity soon arise in the group, reminiscent of past times, and that are the reflection of a society that has regressed. Desire and melancholy will mark characters stunned by a reality that is as fickle as unpredictable.

Mei Mei

Lulu, a high class prostitute, receives constant visits from her neighbor Julian. He believes that she is his missing ex-girlfriend Mei Mei and begs her for a chance to start over again. Lulu rejects him, thinking that he is just making up stories to win her over. She tells him she never wants to see him again, but soon she misses him. It may be too late as she discovers that Julian is with somebody that looks exactly like her.
