Brotherhood tells the story of two brothers of Middle Eastern descent, who live with their mother in a social housing complex, known as Housing States, in the city of Melbourne, Australia. While Ali, the older brother suffers from heroin dependence, Syed, the youngest, tries to make a different life from his brother and finds a means of escape in urban poetry.

Laura Mora

Laura Mora Ortega (Medellín, 1981) is a Colombian film director and screenwriter, recognized for her 2017 feature film Matar a Jesús, and for winning the Golden Shell at the 70th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival, with Los reyes del mundo. He was born in Medellín and studied high school at the German School in the same city. He studied film production and directing at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Matar a Jesús is Mora's debut feature film. It was released in 2017 in theaters in Colombia. The film won a large number of national and international awards, including the EGEDA Award at the Cartagena Film Festival, the Jury Prize for Best First Film and the Casa de las Américas Award at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, the Eroski Youth Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival and the Roger Ebert Award at the Chicago Film Festival.
