Börkur Sigþórsson

Börkur Sigþórsson

Filmmaker and photographer Börkur Sigthorsson lives and works between London and Reykjavik. He started his professional career in photography in Iceland at the age of 20 but quickly branched into directing. In 2004, Börkur was signed as a director to the renowned UK music video production company Oil Factory (later to become Factory Films), where he worked for a number of years. Among his commissions are commercials for Nike (UK), Honda (UK), The Guardian (UK) and Fortum (Sweden) along with music videos for Richard Ashcroft (EMI), Supergrass (EMI), and Nine Black Alps (Island) to name a few. After writing an directing two award-winning short films, SUPPORT (2008) and COME TO HARM (2011), Börkur went on to direct nine episodes of the acclaimed TV crime drama TRAPPED (2015-2021), created by Baltasar Kormakur. Börkur also created the opening title sequence, which you can watch here. The show premiered in February 2016 on BBC4 to rave reviews and the third season will be realeased in the fall of 2021. In the UK, Börkur cut his teeth on ENDEAVOUR for ITV and directed the opening block (eps 1-3) of the 6-part drama BAPTISTE for BBC ONE. 2018 saw the release of Börkur's feature debut, VARGUR (e. VULTURES), produced by RVK STUDIOS. Most recently Börkur directed three episodes of the upcoming NETFLIX sci-fi drama KATLA and is currently working on THE MIDWICH CUCKOOS for SKY, written by David Farr from the novel by John Wyndham.
