In March 2012, Iranian movie "A Separation" by Asghar Farhadi, won the Oscar Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. For the Iranian people this was more than a cinematic award. When sanctions and threats of war with Iran covered the world headlines, Farhadi talked about Iran's love for peace and the rich culture of the Iranians on the stage when receiving his award. This time the Iranians voice was heard through someone other than the government officials. This documentary shows the reaction of the Iranians to this Oscar award and has a general view on Iran's society of today.

Kourosh Ataee

Kourosh Ataee was born in 1990 in Bojnourd, a small city in the north east of Iran. Kourosh started his career in filmmaking at the age of 16, when attending the filmmaking courses of Iran's Young Cinema Society in 2006. He immigrated to Tehran in 2009, and got a B.A in film directing and a M.A in dramatic literature from the Cinema & Theatre Faculty of Tehran University of Arts. After some experiences in making short films and working as an assistant director in a couple of short and feature films , he continued his career with a focus on documentary films and he has directed and produced a mid-length documentary titled "From Iran,A Separation" in 2013 which was acclaimed in different festivals around the world, and a feature documentary titled "Finding Farideh" in 2018, which received a lot of prizes and admirations and was selected as the Iranian representative for the Academy Awards Oscars 2020. Also, he is a member of the association of Iranian documentary producers, and he has newly established his company “Fanoos Films” which its focus is on financing, producing and distributing Iranian independent fiction and documentary films.
