He interested in exploring the intersection of documentary filmmaking, ethnographic research, and oral history. His work focuses on creating portraits of communities and recording histories that are under threat of erasure due larger structural forces such as colonialism and climate change, in particular stories from Asia or the the Asian diaspora.
